Building Innovation Culture

Most organizations and senior executives recognize the critical need for innovation. Then why don’t most organizations have innovation culture?

There are three reasons for this gap:

1. Lack of Shared Sense of Urgency 
Everyone in the company needs to be concerned about the challenges of competing in today’s global economy. Often, the frontline managers and employees don’t have the sense of urgency felt at the senior management level.               

2. Lack of Supportive Organizational Processes
Innovation does not just happen. It needs supportive processes for developing and unleashing creativity and innovation. It needs processes to:

- Tap into the collective intelligence for anticipating customers’ needs; 
- Maximize technology that was not available yesterday; 
- Recognize markets that do not exist today; and 
- Understand the world that never stops.

3. Lack of ‘Leading for Innovation’ Leadership 
Managers’ day-to-day leadership behaviors are the key to creating the five required conditions for building and sustaining an innovation culture.
